RAITH ROVERS have been relegated from the Championship this afternoon after losing the play-off semi-final on penalties against Brechin City.
After a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Glebe Park, the teams drew 2-2 in Kirkcaldy after 90 minutes and with no away goals rule, had to play extra time.
Raith then took the lead and were five minutes away from winning the tie, but Brechin then levelled, and won the penalty shootout.
Commiserations are extended to Raith Rovers, who are relegated after eight seasons in the second tier.
Meanwhile, Brechin’s reward is a place in the final against Alloa, who also won on penalties against Airdrieonians today.
The Diamonds led 1-0 from the first leg, but Alloa won by the same scoreline today, and extra time could not separate the two sides either.
It was Alloa who triumphed on penalties, and both legs of their final against Brechin will be broadcast live on BBC Alba.
The first leg is on Wednesday evening and the second leg on Saturday evening.
It also.means that Dumbarton will definitely have another part-time side competing with them in next season’s Championship.
