EVERY edition of Sons View is worth a lot to many collectors, among the DFC support or otherwise. But Saturday’s edition against Raith Rovers had a bit more reason to be.
The date was of course February 29 – reflected in the marriage proposal which took place trackside before kick-off involving a Raith supporter and his now-fiancee.
But there was also something special about the programme, as Dumbarton last played at home on February 29 in 1964, beating Hamilton Accies 2-0.
That was five years before Sons introduced a regular programme – so Saturday’s edition is the first ever to have the once-every-four-years date on the cover!
Programme editor Graeme Robertson said: “In 28 years of doing the programme you’d think everything had been seen by now – but nope.
“The programme almost sold out on Saturday and with the special date, it’s a bit of a collector’s item.
“We’re glad it was able to be recognised with a victory as well!”
If you’re still looking for a copy of the programme, contact us at office@dumbartonfc.co.uk or on 01389 762569 and we’ll do our best to help.
The date of February 29 will next fall on a Saturday in 2048, although there is a remote chance Sons could play on it in 2028 as that will be a Tuesday.
