MORGYN NEILL had at least four reasons to be cheerful when Dumbarton beat Clyde last Tuesday.
A goal, a clean sheet, three points and a man of the match award. Not a bad haul for one night.
Throw in his goal against East Fife a month ago and he’s even Sons’ top scorer this decade.
But where he had all that, his mum Sharon had roughly 80 causes for celebration.
While Morgyn took home the man of the match whisky, his mum went away with the half time draw jackpot.
And the good times were heightened even further when Stuart Carswell scored the injury time winner against Raith Rovers on Saturday.
Speaking to www.dumbartonfootballclub.com, Morgyn said: “It was a nice touch that my mum won the money, with me winning man of the match and getting a goal.
“It’s nice to be the club’s top scorer this decade – but we’ll see how long that lasts!
“It was good for us to have a bit of momentum going into the game against Raith and we’re certain that contributed to getting another victory.
“We’ll just keep taking it a game at a time. We’ve now got two clean sheets and two victories so we’ll try to keep that run going for as long as we can.
“Today was a good result for us and one I think we deserved. We’d been getting the ball into the box and every time we went up the field we felt we could make something happen.
“The ball fell to Stuart’s feet and we got the win in the end, so we’re delighted.”
Weather and pitch permitting, Dumbarton now switch their attention to Tuesday’s home fixture against Forfar Athletic.
Sons’ two daytime home fixtures so far in 2020 have been dominated by the elements, but hopefully another mild evening, like against Clyde, will be in store for the Loons clash.
He added: “We’ll see how the pitch holds up – it’s cut up quite a bit today with the weather.
“When we set out to warm up it was fine but the weather got worse. The groundsmen and volunteers have done a great job to ensure we could play today.
“It’s just how it works when you play football in Scotland – you’ll get bad weather every so often.
“I’d actually say the weather was worse today than it was against Airdrie recently. The wind and cold were big factors but it’s a big three points and that makes it all worthwhile.
“Hopefully we can play against Forfar on Tuesday and keep things going.”
