PROCLAIMERS SET FOR THE ROCK

Monday 1st April 2013

SONS boss Ian Murray has pulled in another two of his old friends to help out at Dumbarton FC on matchdays.

The gaffer recently brought former Scotland keeper Craig Gordon to help out as part of the coaching set-up – but his latest recruits are very different.

We can reveal that musical duo The Proclaimers will be providing pre-match entertainment in the supporters’ bar before home games.

Subject to tour and recording commitments, brothers Craig and Charlie Reid will play a set an hour before kick-off each home matchday, starting on Saturday against Livingston.

Season ticket holders will automatically get into the pre-match gigs, while pay-on-the-day fans can enter the bar for just an extra £5.

The deal came about as The Proclaimers are lifelong fans of Hibernian, for whom Ian played for many years as a player.

Ian said: “I’m good friends with the guys as a result of playing for Hibs and I’ve been to see them live several times.

“While the players and I will be preparing for home games, I can guarantee the fans that they’re in for a musical treat.

“They won’t play before every home game – it depends on how it fits in with their recording and tour commitments. They have a tour lined up later this year.

“Obviously they’ll miss getting to Easter Road – but will still get there when Hibs are at home and Dumbarton are away.

“A record being made with the team may also be in the pipeline – watch this space.”

The Proclaimers are well-known for hits such as ‘Letter from America’ and ‘500 Miles’ as well as the little-known album track ‘Sadly, It’s Not True’

Hospitality guests will also be allowed through to the bar to watch them in action as soon as they have finished their meal.
