PRESSURE BUT NO POINTS

Saturday 21st November 2020

DUMBARTON pushed hard but could not find the net as they lost 1-0 to Peterhead at Balmoor Stadium today.

The home side took the lead after only four minutes, when ex-Son Ben Armour netted a cross from the right. But Sons soon found better form, with Ross Forbes twice and Morgyn Neill coming close.

Adam Frizzell sent over some good crosses, and in the 41st minute Ryan McGeever headed a Forbes corner just over the bar. Half-time arrived with Peterhead still 1-0 ahead.

The visitors started the second period dominating possession, with Sam Wardrop (pictured with Ben Armour), Chris Hamilton and Jaime Wilson all having chances. Steven Boyd missed out on a chance for the hosts in the 60th minute.

Six minutes later strikers Robert Jones and Denny Johnstone replaced Nat Wedderburn and Wilson before a close range header from veteran striker Derek Lyle went just over the bar. At the other end skipper Stuart Carswell dragged a shot wide.

Four minutes from time ex-Sons striker Isaac Layne injured his knee and had to be replaced.

The visitors final chance came in the 89th minute when a Jones strike went so close. The win was only Peterhead’s second of the season.
