PITCH BATTLE IN FULL SWING

Wednesday 7th March 2018

A HUGE effort is ongoing to ensure that Dumbarton can beat ‘The Beast from the East’ and play Queen of the South this Saturday.

Groundsman Alan Brown has been hard at work over the past 48 hours as the wintry weather relents and the blanket of snow on the YOUR Radio 103FM Stadium pitch disappears.

It follows Saturday’s events when a dedicated band of 12 supporters joined kit man Colm McKinley to remove some of the snow from the playing surface.

Although there is still work to be done, Alan is hopeful that the match against the Doonhamers will go ahead, with better weather forecast over the coming days.

Alan said: “It’s been a struggle, no doubt about it, but we are more optimistic than we were 24 hours ago.

“Today saw a lot of surface water drained from all areas of the pitch. If the game was tonight, it would not get played, but we remain hopeful for Saturday.

“With so many midweek dates already taken up, it is vital for the team to get games played, and hopefully this can happen against Queen of the South. Everybody is only too glad to do their bit where the team benefits.”

Alan added: “Both my assistant Ally (Alistair Glashan) and the fans who turned out on Saturday can feel enormously satisfied with their assistance.

“It is very much appreciated.”
