DUMBARTON will have a third meeting with Peterhead this season after the Blue Toon’s place in the bottom half of League One after 18 games was confirmed today.
Despite taking a 1-0 lead, Peterhead lost 2-1 at East Fife and will join Sons, Clyde and Forfar in the bottom five after the split.
The final team in that group will be known after Tuesday’s last round of pre-split fixtures.
It currently looks most likely to be Montrose, who are currently sixth, two points behind Airdrie and three behind East Fife.
But, as ever, there are permutations for several outcomes. Airdrie and East Fife actually meet on Tuesday and a draw is likely to suit both.
Montrose could only then break into the top half by running in an avalanche of goals at home to Cove Rangers the same evening.
However, any victory for Montrose will put them in the top half if there is a winner in the match at Airdrie. It is all to play for between the three sides – and elsewhere in the division.
In League One’s only other fixture today, Cove Rangers beat Falkirk 2-0, tightening the race at the top.
