PAUL PATON IS ON BOARD

Thursday 10th June 2021

DEFENSIVE midfielder Paul Paton is the latest recruit to the Dumbarton squad for the coming season, signing a deal at the Rock tonight.

The 34-year-old arrives after most recently turning out for Airdrieonians at the late stages of last season, having signed for them on loan from East Kilbride.

His senior career began with Queen’s Park in 2005 and he was in the Spiders squad which won promotion to the old Second Division through the playoffs in 2007.

He signed for Partick Thistle in 2008 and played over 180 games for the Jags, playing for them when they won promotion to the top flight in 2013.

Paul then turned out for Dundee United and St Johnstone before a brief spell in English football with Plymouth Argyle.

Since returning to Scotland in 2018 he has turned out for Falkirk and Dunfermline before signing for East Kilbride in the 2020 close season.

Completing Paul’s impressive CV are fivesenior international caps for Northern Ireland.

Manager Stevie Farrell said: “Since he took his first steps in senior football with Queen’s Park, Paul has grown into a top defensive midfielder and has plenty to offer.

“His spell with Airdrieonians at the end of last season shows he has plenty to offer in our arena and we look forward to benefiting from his experience here.”

Look out for an interview with Paul on the club website later tonight.
