Midfielder Owen Hartington is the latest player to join Frank McKeown’s Sons for the new campaign, signing on loan from Premiership champions Celtic.
An energetic left-footed midfielder, Owen signed his first professional contract with Celtic two years ago in 2024 and has recently earned himself another two-year deal at Parkhead taking him to 2028. Hartington now heads to The Rock alongside teammate Aidan Rice to build up his first team experience with the Sons.
Last season he featured 22 times for the Hoops’ B team in the Lowland League – earning him the opportunity to make the step up to SPFL football as a Dumbarton player after recently spending time training with Martin O’Neill’s first team squad.
Boss Frank McKeown said: “Owen is a player with a very high ceiling and is capable of having a career at the top level. He has a lot of potential and we’re delighted to have him at Dumbarton. He’s someone with a lot of technical ability, but also with the physical attributes needed to play at the highest level – and he demonstrated both with Celtic B last season.
“Owen will now join us and show the same level of commitment and hunger he has for Celtic and I’m sure we will see the best of him in a Dumbarton shirt.
“I have been working with Chris McCart and Shaun Maloney to get this deal over the line and would like to thank everyone at Celtic who helped make it happen. We’re looking forward to working with Owen and supporting him in the next stage of his development.”
Owen goes straight into the squad for our William Hill League 2 season opener against Stirling Albion.
