ONE CENTURY HIT AND ANOTHER APPROACHING!

Tuesday 3rd September 2019

MIDFIELDER and club captain Stuart Carswell recently played his 100th game for Dumbarton in the 3-1 victory at home to Stranraer.

Signed from Keflavik in January 2017, last season’s Sonstrust player of the year has scored four goals in the process of reaching his century.

These were against Elgin City in November 2017, Alloa Athletic in May 2018, East Fife in October 2018 and Raith Rovers in February 2019.

Sons are unbeaten whenever Stuart has scored – they won the first three of those games without even conceding, before drawing with Raith!

Stuart of course made it 101 games for Sons at Montrose on Saturday. He still needs to start four more games to make it 100 starts for the club. The earliest he can do this is at home to Forfar Athletic on Saturday, October 5.

Club vice-chairman Colin Hosie is pictured presenting Stuart with a bottle of champagne after the Stranraer match.

And all being well, there will be another such presentation shortly, as Stuart’s midfield colleague Kyle Hutton is also closing in on a century of games for Sons.

Saturday’s victory at Montrose was Kyle’s 98th in a Dumbarton jersey, meaning that the impeding away game at East Fife on Saturday, September 21 could be his 100th.

There are a couple of fitting ironies where Kyle is concerned. His first opportunity to make his 100th start for the club will be against his former team, Airdrieonians, at the Penny Cars Stadium on Saturday, November 2.

And should the East Fife match be his 100th game, Kyle will be presented with a bottle of champagne at the following week’s home match against Clyde – the team he made his debut against in July 2017.

Congratulations to Stuart and we look forward to recognising Kyle’s achievement in due course!
