SATURDAY’S trip to Forfar is a journey into the unknown for many Dumbarton players.
But not for Robert Thomson – and after the week he’s had, the visit to Station Park is one he can’t wait for.
The striker scored an overhead kick in yesterday’s friendly with Motherwell, which sits well alongside his thunderous 25-yard goal against Cumbernauld Colts on Monday.
Now it is on to his competitive debut on Saturday, against a Forfar side he knows well and scored against for Brechin City last season.
He said: “We’ve played well at stages of all the pre-season games, but now we’ve got to do it when the proper games start at Forfar on Saturday.
“It will be difficult as Station Park is a hard place to go. They are always well organised and difficult to beat.
“We will certainly need to be on top of our game to come away from the result, but it is a trip we feel confident about.”
The two goals this week are also ones that Robert will look back on with satisfaction – and he hopes there are more to come.
He added: “They were both really good goals and I don’t think I’ve scored two like them so close together.
“Any goal is a good goal, regardless of how it comes, but I want to score tap-ins as well. I had a chance later on in the game which didn’t find the net.
“It was just unfortunate that we couldn’t hang on, having played well for large spells, but the proper stuff starts next week.”
