NO FESTIVE REST FOR THE SONS

Friday 25th December 2015

THERE’S very little rest for professional footballers at this time of year and their work continues this weekend, with the SPFL Championship having three matches scheduled for Boxing Day.

Sons travel to the Falkirk Stadium to face the Bairns in what will be a battle of the division’s form teams.

Falkirk have notched four wins from their last six outings, whilst Stevie Aitken’s last six league matches have yielded two wins and two draws.

And the Dumbarton boss was in a typically festive mood when we spoke to him following his Christmas Eve training session.

“We are looking forward to the game on Saturday,” said Stevie. “We finished strongly against Livingston last week and we go into the Falkirk match with confidence.

“They too of course will be on a high, having beaten Rangers and consolidating their top four place, but we only really concentrate on ourselves.”

With the transfer window approaching, the gaffer is busy on the contract front meaning that his Christmas break will be one immersed in player talks.

“We’ve had some discussions with the guys in the squad whose contracts are needing reviewed, plus we are in negotiations with clubs who have lads out on loan to us.

“I’m hopeful we can get some early conclusions.”

Following a light but thorough training session on Christmas Eve, manager Aitken reports no injuries and will have a full squad to choose from.
