SONS’ spirited second-half performance was not enough to stop Hibs winning 6-3 at the Rock today.
A poor first half display saw Dumbarton fall 3-0 behind.
Scott Allan’s shot Hibs ahead, Dom Malonga’s strike doubled the advantage soon after and Paul Hanlon scored the Edinburgh side’s third.
Substitute Chris Kane gave Sons fresh energy with a well taken goal. Then when Andy Graham’s header made it 3-2, hope for a comeback was high among the home support.
Malonga’s stunning strike made it 4-2 for Hibs, before Dumbarton Man of the Match Garry Fleming’s edge of the box shot crept past Mark Oxley to reduce the deficit again.
Sam Stanton killed the match with Hibs fifth goal before Malonga completed his hat-trick.
