SONS’ first competitive match of the new season pitches Ian Murray’s team into battle with Raith Rovers and it’s a game that the boss is looking forward to.
The fixture list for the SPFL Championship was released today and the Dumbarton gaffer has mixed views about how he will begin the defence of the club’s title of best part-time team in Scotland.
He said : “Two away games from the first three set of fixtures is a tough start, especially with a trip to Ibrox.
“And in October we have back-to-back matches against Hibs, Hearts and of course Rangers.
“But, it’s going to be an exciting season and every game will be treated on its merits, so we now get on with the job in hand of preparing.”
From a supporters point of view, Sonstrust Chairman Brian Payne echoes the thoughts of most when he says that the start of the campaign can’t come quick enough.
“It’s going to be a rollercoaster campaign,” said Brian.
“But, no complaints, being in the Championship is the place to be and Sons fans are looking forward to the new season.
“Starks Park is always a hard place to get points and everyone wants to start the season at home, but Kirkcaldy is a good away day for supporters.
“The flip side is that the last game of the season will be at the Bet Butler Stadium.”
