NEW ASSISTANT MANAGER

Friday 27th January 2017

SONS manager Stevie Aitken has appointed former Scotland international and Rangers coach Ian Durrant as his assistant for the remainder of the season.

Durrant’s arrival at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium is a welcome boost following the departure of Stephen Farrell to Stranraer.

Ian joined Stevie and the DFC players for his first Sons training session at the Benburb complex last night (Thurs), helping prepare the squad for this Saturday’s crucial Championship clash against Raith Rovers.

The former Rangers and Kilmarnock midfielder, who also had a brief loan spell at Everton, began his coaching career at Ibrox becoming Walter Smith and Ally McCoist’s first-team coach followed by a stint looking after their under-20s, but left the club in June 2016.

Stevie Aitken commented: “I’m pleased to welcome Ian to the club and look forward to working with him.

“It was important that we added to the backroom staff quickly following Faz’s departure.

“Ian brings a wealth of football experience which will be of huge importance as the season progresses.”
