DUMBARTON hosted old rivals Clydebank today at the C&G Systems Stadium today in their final pre-season friendly, and earned a narrow 1-0 victory.
It was a welcome return to games against the former senior now junior club Bankies, and manager Stevie Farrell sprang a surprise by fielding midfielder Carlo Pigniatello as a trialist. He was signed before the match on a season-long loan from Livingston, in the squad.
He was joined by six trialists, one replacing Sam Ramsbottom in goal, with four of them joining Sam on the bench. The keeper was in action early, saving a deflected Lee Gallacher shot.
Sons first real chance came in the 17th minute when trialist 15 beat a defender and sent in a low cross which was hacked clear. Twenty minutes later Gallacher hit the post, and in the 40th minute Sons winger Ross MacLean sent over a cross which Conner Duthie could not convert.
An entertaining first half ended at 0-0, and there were no changes at the break.
Sons took the lead early in the second half when Joe McKee (pictured) netted off the far post. Soon after Duthie passed to MacLean, but his shot was straight at the keeper.
The first change for Dumbarton was in the 62nd minute when a trialist came on for Edin Lynch. Two more then replaced McKee and Duthie, and the final change saw Kalvin Orsi replaced.
Chances came at both ends, and Bankies keeper Jamie Docherty made several good saves. However there was no further scoring.
