NARROW WIN FOR JAGS

Tuesday 20th July 2021

DUMBARTON travelled to Firhill to face Partick Thistle in their final Premier Sport Cup group H match on a hot sunny evening, and finished on the wrong end of a 2-0 scoreline.

Manager Stevie Farrell welcomed back the four players who had been isolating, Kalvin Orsi, Joe McKee (pictured), Carlo Pigniatello and Edin Lynch, and they were all in what might well be his strongest starting line-up.

In the first minute Sam Ramsbottom beat away a curling shot from Kyle Turner, then Scott Tiffony was foiled. Next Ryan McGeever headed a corner clear before McKee shot wide from the edge of the box.

In the 32nd minute a low strike from Gregor Buchanan was cleared. At the other end Ramsbottom pushed away a Kevin Holt header, and Brian Graham fired the rebound over the bar.

Next a McKee cross caused chaos in the home defence, but on the stroke of half-time Graham headed the opening goal at the back post. Early in the second half he netted a second.

McKee had a deflected cross tipped over the bar, before Conner Duthie made a goal-line clearance.

Then came the changes, with Kris Syversten on for Orsi, then Calum Wilson and latest signing Mark Lamont replacing McKee and Ross Maclean. Finally David Hopkirk was replaced by Eoghan Stokes.

In the 88th minute Ramsbottom was yellow-carded for a foul on Ross Docherty, and full-time arrived with no further scoring.
