MORTON GO NAP AGAINST SONS

Saturday 17th November 2012

MORTON quickly wrecked Dumbarton’s hopes of immediately building on last week’s victory against Cowdenbeath, securing a comprehensive 5-1 victory at the Bet Butler Stadium this afternoon.

Things started to go wrong early for Sons, when Jamie Ewings was adjudged to have committed an infringement as he charged out, and Martin Hardie struck home from the penalty spot.

Hardie added a second on 17 minutes from a free header. Peter Weatherston then nodded in a third from point blank range eight minutes before the break.

Morton continued their dominance and goal scoring in the second half. David Graham’s wind-assisted corner left everyone standing as it sliced into Dumbarton’s net on 54 minutes, before Weatherston made it five with a curled shot just after the hour.

Bryan Prunty claimed a well placed consolation goal for Sons on 84 minutes. But it was small compensation for a cold, wet afternoon made far more miserable by a confident looking Morton side.

Next up for Sons is a tough away fixture against Dunfermline Athletic next Saturday, 24th November, when Dumbarton will hope to bounce straight back.
