MISERY FOR SONS AS BAIRNS GO NAP

Saturday 24th October 2015

IT was a grim afternoon for Dumbarton at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium, as Falkirk romped to a 5-0 victory on a blustery day.

Slack defending allowed the Bairns’ John Baird twice to go one-on-one with Sons’ keeper Mark Brown, and the score, on 5 minutes and 23 minutes respectively.

Dumbarton could almost have been back in the game twice themselves, when Willie Gibson shot wide after a brilliant run. Then Grant Gallagher fired over the bar.

As it was, Bob McHugh added to the pain with a well-taken low drive to make it 3-0 to Falkirk just before half time.

The visitors increased their lead after the break. First, Baird claimed his hat-trick with a goal almost identical to his first two.

Then Blair Alston made it 5-0 to the Bairns as he drove home unmarked from the far post.

Next up for Dumbarton is another home encounter against local neighbours Greenock Morton on Saturday 31st October.

Stevie Aitken’s bruised players will undoubtedly be aiming to bounce back as soon as possible from two defeats in a row.
