Thursday 9th January 2014
SONS gaffer Ian Murray today agreed to cancel Martin McNiff’s contract and the player is now a free agent.
Consistent performances in midfield in the Dumbarton 19s side throughout the 2008-9 season earned Martin a call-up to the first team squad in June 2009 while still eligible to play for the 19s.
During 2009-10 he made a number of first team appearances in midfield or defence, and impressed with his coolness and commitment.
His progress continued in 2010-11 under first Jim Chapman and then Alan Adamson, and he remained under contract for the 2011-12 season.
In June 2012 Martin signed a two year contract extension, and in January 2013 he joined Annan Athletic — now managed by ex-Sons boss Jim Chapman — on loan until the end of the season.
In August he returned to Annan on a further loan until January 2014.
He made 75 appearances for the Sons plus 8 from the subs bench and scored 3 goals.
He leaves the club with all our best wishes for the future.
