Dumbarton Football Club are delighted to announce that Matthew Shiels has returned to the club.

The left-sided midfielder and defender is now set for his third spell at the Rock having made nine appearances in the 2019/20 campaign and 22 in the first-half of last season, netting three goals.

The 23-year-old scored in his final game for the Sons against Rangers in the Scottish Cup in January before joining Cove Rangers.

Shiels has signed a one-year deal with the club to become Dumbarton’s first ‘new’ face ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Boss Stevie Farrell said: “As soon as we learned that Matty might be available we were immediately in contact and keen to get a deal agreed.

“He is someone we obviously know very well and fitting in with the rest of the group won’t be a problem having been here this year.

“We all saw last season how composed in defence he is on the ball for someone so young, but he also has that spark in the final third that can get fans off their seats.

“We’re really pleased with the progress we have made with the squad in the last couple of weeks and will have more exciting news to share very soon.”

Welcome Matty back by sponsoring his shirt ahead of the 2024/25 season. Contact for more details.
