MATCH PREVIEW: INVERNESS CT VS DUMBARTON
The 2024/25 William Hill League One campaign kicks off tomorrow as Dumbarton face a journey to the Highlands to take on Inverness Caledonian Thistle at the Caledonian Stadium [kick-off 3:00pm].
The sides were two divisions apart last season as they went through opposite emotions in the play-offs in May, with Inverness relegated from the Championship by Hamilton Accies whilst Sons earned promotion from League Two after a memorable evening in the capital.
Duncan Ferguson’s men will be targeting an immediate return to the second tier, but Stevie Farrell’s troops have aspirations of their own and will be looking to make it five unbeaten opening day league fixtures in a row.
The Sons boss hopes his side can build on a Premier Sports Cup campaign that did have its positives as he prepares for a return to League One football.
Speaking to the clubs website, he said: “There are aspects of the group stage that we were very pleased with and felt we definitely deserved more out of some of the games.
“That being said, there are of course areas in which we need to improve and if we can tighten up at both ends of the park I am confident of a positive campaign.
“The start of the league season is always an exciting day for coaches, players and supporters where everyone is looking forward to the season ahead.
“That is no different for us and we’re all really excited to get going. We know we’ve got a difficult opening fixture but if we can build on the encouraging performances we have seen through pre-season and in the Premier Sports Cup, I know we can have a great campaign back in League One.”
David Wilson is the only absentee for Dumbarton tomorrow with the midfielder expected to return to full training next week.
