Dumbarton’s preparations for upcoming season continue this evening with a trip to Ayrshire to take on Glenafton Athletic.

Sons got their friendly campaign under way on Saturday and put in a promising performance against Falkirk, despite ultimately losing 3-2.

Tonight’s opponents, who play in the Premier Division of the West of Scotland Football League, will provide a different test for Frank McKeown and his side, who will once again oversee proceedings from the dugout this evening.

The assistant boss was encouraged by the performance against the Bairns in the first workout of pre-season and hopes to see his side take another step up at Loch Park.

Speaking post-match, he said: “From any pre-season match, particularly your first, you’re looking for a competitive workout and that’s exactly what we got.

“I was really pleased with how we played for 60-70 minutes, and then the game can come slightly disjointed when both teams make a number of substitutions but overall we come away feeling positive.

“The Glenafton game is another opportunity for us to get minutes under the belts and work on another couple of things ahead of the competitive action starting.”

There are thought to be no injuries coming out of Saturday’s game with Cammy Clark set to appear in the squad for the first time this evening whilst Tony Wallace will continue to be monitored after missing out against Falkirk. The three trialists who appeared against the Bairns will also be given the opportunity to impress whilst Greig Young continues his return from his ACL injury after getting ten minutes at the weekend.
