MATCH PREVIEW: EDINBURGH CITY FC

Friday 4th July 2014

SONS summer schedule continues tomorrow with another trip East to play Edinburgh City FC at Ainslie Park, home of The Spartans FC.

Ian Murray’s team kicked off the pre-season campaign with a 4-0 win against Vale of Leithen last night in Peebleshire and the manager was understandably pleased at the outcome.

He said : “It was a good workout for us and we played well with the new guys settling in well.

“Scoring four goals and keeping a clean sheet is always welcome no matter the game.

“We now play Edinburgh City tomorrow and it’s another match we are looking forward to.

“We will be travelling through early with the squad coming together for a session in the morning before the actual game.”

Team News: Sons new signing Lee Mair is likely to feature in the line-up at some point and players who missed out against Vale of Leithen will be in the frame to start.

The Opposition : Our hosts tomorrow will entertain us at Spartans FC home ground that is Ainslie Park but normally play their matches at Meadowbank Stadium.

In 2013 Edinburgh City resigned from the East of Scotland League to join the newly formed Scottish Lowland Football League which was set up to institute a football pyramid system with the winners of both the lowland and highland league vying for a place in the Scottish Professional Football League.

The City squad is drawn mostly from players that have progressed through the club’s youth system and is augmented with additions from the senior ranks. Last season ex-East Fife goalie Andrew Stobie featured as did former Livingston man Mark Torrance.

Match Officials: Referee – Evan Cairns. Referee Assistants – Calum Doyle, Stewart Luke.

Admission Prices: £5 for adults and £2 for concessions.
