MATCH PREVIEW: DUMBARTON VS SPARTANS

Dumbarton host Spartans in the first-leg of the cinch League One play-off final this evening [kick-off 7.30pm, live on BBC Alba].

Sons got past Stirling Albion in their semi-final, relegating the Binos in the process with a 2-1 win over two legs, whilst Spartans earned an impressive 7-2 aggregate victory over Peterhead to set up the two-legged tie.

Boss Stevie Farrell was impressed with the way his side defended their lead at Forthbank on Saturday but stressed that nothing has been achieved yet.

Speaking post-match on Saturday, he said: “We knew the game would be different from the game on Saturday would be different from the one on Tuesday because everyone is a little more nervous as there isn’t a second chance as such.

“We played very well in the first-half and had one of our chances gone in during the first-half we probably would have killed the tie but the longer it goes with just one goal in it then the other team will always believe and they were throwing everything at us but we stood up to it well.

“We’ve had a lot of clean sheets this season and I said to the boys they would stand us in good stead in the second-half and our defensive structure got us through the tie.

“Stirling is finished now and there’s no plaudits to take, we’ve earned the right to be in the final and we’ve got to go and try and deal with these next two games.

“I don’t think there’s anything between the two teams and we’ve got to go and get after these next two games as we did the Stirling games.”

James Hilton has improved after missing out on Saturday with a hamstring injury but will undergo a fitness test ahead of kick-off. Brett Long and Greig Young remain out. Otherwise, it’s a full squad to choose from.
