Dumbarton’s pre-season schedule comes to an end tomorrow afternoon with the visit of Queen of the South [kick-off 2:00pm].
Sons have taken part in the Stirlingshire Cup against Stenhousemuir and Stirling Albion so far and also had friendlies with St Mirren and Irvine Meadow as preparations for the competitive campaign ramp up.
Stevie Farrell’s side were set to welcome Northern Premier League outfit Hebburn Town tomorrow afternoon but that game was postponed with the Doonhamers instead set to provide the opposition.
Dumbarton are searching for their first win of pre-season but did score their first three goals against Medda on Thursday evening and Farrell admits there are still things to work on.
Speaking post-match, he said: “There were good things in the game on Thursday. Our trialist striker did very well and there are other things that I’m happy with moving forwards.
“But we’ve got millions of things to work on, and we know that. We’re working two or three weeks behind where we’d like to be.
“We’re grateful to Queen of the South for stepping up to become our opposition at late notice and after facing them five times last season it will be an interesting test to see how far along we really are.
“We’ve got a lot of work to do in the next two weeks before the Premier Sports Cup starts and we know that we’re three or four players short but we won’t be rushed into anything.”
Farrell will continue to look at trialists tomorrow afternoon whilst Mark Durnan, Dom Docherty and Gordon Walker will be assessed after picking up knocks in recent outings. St Mirren loanees Thomas Falconer and Carrick McEvoy have both travelled with the Saints squad for their pre-season tour to Spain.
Supporters attending the Rock tomorrow are advised to purchase their tickets in advance via Fanbase. Tickets can be bought on the day from the ticketing window beside the main entrance of the stadium with cash and card accepted. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for concessions, students and under-16’s. Please note only one turnstile will be open in the home end so queues are likely.
Turnstiles and Bar 72 are open from 12:30 with both sets of supporters welcome.
