Dumbarton get their SPFL Trust Trophy 2024/25 campaign under way this evening with the visit of Lowland League side Berwick Rangers[kick-off 7:45pm].
The Second Round clash at the Marbill Coaches Stadium will be the first time the sides have met in nearly 11 years when Sons were 3-1 winners at Shielfield Park in a Fourth Round Scottish Cup tie.
Berwick have started their Lowland League season in impressive form as they are one of the early pace setters in the division, currently sitting joint top alongside Celtic B and Caledonian Braves after four games.
Dumbarton come into the tie following back-to-back draws to kick off their League One season and despite a home tie against a team from further down the pyramid, boss Stevie Farrell is expecting a difficult contest.
Speaking to the clubs website, he said: “It’s been a solid start to League One for us and what we have shown is that we can compete at this level with two very well deserved results against sides who many are tipping for good things this season.
“We need to shift our focus slightly for this evenings fixture because we know we are going up against a good side who have started their own season in impressive fashion.
“We’ve done our homework on Berwick and had them watched, as we do with every opponent, so we know what to expect and the focus is entirely on advancing into the next round of the competition.
“We will be looking to use the squad this evening. It’s really competitive for jerseys and anyone I put in for any game, I trust they can do a job for us.”
It is a full squad to choose from for the Sons boss this evening with Mouhamed Niang returning from suspension.
