DEFENDER Martin McNiff has returned to for a second spell with the club, arriving from Stirling Albion on a one-year deal.
As a youngster, he was part of the squad who won the Third Division championship in season 2008/09, although he only played in one fixture.
Three years later, and by now a consistent first pick for Sons, he was involved in winning promotion to the second tier through the playoffs.
Midway through our first season back in the second tier, he went on loan to Annan Athletic and then spent the entirety of the 2013/14 season at Galabank as well.
His switch to Annan became permanent midway through that season, before he joined Clyde in 2016, and spent five seasons there.
After that, he joined Stirling for the 2021/22 season and played in 29 games, scoring three times.
He should play his 100th game for Dumbarton this season, as he is currently on 93, and has scored three goals in that time.
Manager Stevie Farrell said: “Martin has gone from a promising young defender with Dumbarton to a fully-fledged defender at our level.
“Being from the local area, he is delighted to play for the club and we are equally pleased to have him on board for the new season.”
Welcome back to Dumbarton Martin! Read his thoughts on rejoining on the club website, and hear from him on our social media channels, in due course.
