SONS boss Stevie Aitken was happy at progressing into Round 2 of the Irn Bru Cup following last night’s 2-1 win against Rangers Colts.
Speaking to the press post match, he said : “The game was what I expected.
“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy and we wanted to get through the tie without any problems, but we had a couple of injuries to contend with.
“The game panned out the way I thought it would. They had a lot of the ball and we counter attacked. Had we been more careful in the final third we’d have scored more goals.
“We’re disappointed at the Rangers goal. We were sloppy and at 2-1 anything can happen. Scott Gallacher had to make a great save to keep us in the game. But, like any cup competition, you want to make sure you’re in the next round and we’ve done that, so overall we’ve got to be happy.”
Looking forward to games coming up, the manager added : “We’ve had two difficult (league) fixtures and we’ve aquitted ourselves really well.
“Kyle Hutton is now back from suspension and Stuart Carswell is back from injury, Danny handling is just about there as well, so we are starting to get players back.
“Once we have the squad back we can work on how we want to play this year.”
The draw for the second round of the Irn Bru Cup takes place at 1pm today and Sons next game in the Ladbrokes Championship is a trip to Dumfries to play fourth placed Queen of the South on Saturday 19th August.
