MANAGER ACCEPTS RELEGATION IS DESERVED

Sunday 8th May 2022

MANAGER Stevie Farrell accepted that Dumbarton deserved to be relegated to cinch League Two after yesterday’s second leg draw with Edinburgh City.

The 1-1 scoreline at the Dumbarton Football Stadium was not enough to overturn the 4-1 defeat sustained in the first leg on Tuesday.

And Stevie made no excuses when facing the media after the game.

He said: “The first leg was the one that did it. You just hope and pray in the circumstances and when we got the first goal it gave us a bit of hope.

“But it ended up summing up our season. We gave ourselves a lift and then conceded such a cheap goal to give away.

“Everybody then knows it is a long way back. Over the two legs of the tie we have deserved nothing and we deserve to be relegated.

“I have said to the players that is my responsibility. I have thanked the players for their endeavours. We lacked quality and know-how in League One and I have to take responsibility for that.

“I have to learn from this experience. I said the honest truth after the first leg on Tuesday that individual errors had hurt us, and today we are relegated and deservedly so.”
