Leighton stays a Son

We’re delighted to announce that striker Leighton McIntosh has signed a new deal to remain at The Rock – sponsored by Marbill Coaches.

The forward scored 16 times in William Hill League 2 last season, earning a place in the PFA Team of the Year, as well as scooping the Sonstrust Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards.

Now Sons have fought off stiff competition from a host of other clubs to ensure that the 33-year-old, who played more minutes for the club than anyone else last season, will add to the 47 appearances he has already made as a Dumbarton player – after he inked a new one-year contract, with an option for an extension.

Boss Frank McKeown said: “Unsurprisingly Leighton was a man in demand over the summer, so we’re delighted that he has committed his future to Dumbarton.

“On and off the park he is a model professional who sets standards and leads by example, he is someone I trust and he has been excellent with my younger players. His performances saw him being recognised in the PFA Team of the Year as well as the Players’ Player of the Year award, but Leighton is very humble and is the first to thank the staff and his team mates for their part too. It’s fantastic to have him on board for the new season.

“Everyone at the club has been working tirelessly on squad building and we’re confident that we’ll have more positive news to share soon.”
