LEAGUE CUP WIN BOOST FOR SONS

Saturday 4th August 2012

DUMBARTON marched into the second round of the Scottish Communities League Cup at the Rock this afternoon, beating Albion Rovers 2-0.

At the end of an uninspiring first half, Dumbarton stole a march on their Second Division opponents. Andy Graham headed towards goal, saw his effort parried, and then Bryan Prunty rose to nod the ball past Wee Rovers’ ‘keeper Chris McClusky.

The half-time lead looked like being extended straight after the break, as Jim Lister burst through after a central defensive mix-up for the visitors. But his shot flew well over the bar.

Sons continued to dominate in the second half, and enjoyed a string of half chances before Lister wrapped the game up on 83 minutes with an impressive strike.

Next Saturday the First Division campaign gets underway with a trip to New Broomfield to face Airdrie United.
