LATE DRAMA SEES SONS BEAT WASPS

Saturday 2nd April 2022

THE most remarkable ending to a game has seen Dumbarton take a priceless three points for a 3-2 victory at Alloa Athletic today.

After a poor first half, a number of fine saves by Kieran Wright kept Sons in contention before he was beaten by Blaise Riley-Snow on 82 minutes.

The Wasps’ one-goal advantage remained through to the 85th minute before the incredible climax got underway when a penalty was awarded to Dumbarton.

Conner Duthie stepped up to make it 1-1, and just two minutes later looked to have earned all three points by finishing from Callum Wilson’s cross.

But on 89 minutes, the referee was pointing to the spot again, this time in Alloa’s favour. Stefan Scougall converted to deny Sons two points – or so it looked.

Deep into injury time, a scramble in the Alloa box resulted in Kristoffer Syvertsen (pictured) scoring his first goal for Dumbarton at the best possible time.

Peterhead’s 3-0 victory at Clyde means that Sons remain four points behind the Blue Toon – who they play at home next week.
