Dumbarton were defeated on penalties by East Kilbride in the Premier Sports Cup at the Marbill Coaches Stadium this afternoon.
Jon Robertson’s early strike deflected into the net via Cammy Clark to give the visitors an early lead but Sons responded through Kalvin Orsi less than 10-minutes later.
The better of the chances fell to Dumbarton throughout the afternoon with James Hilton denied by a good stop by the visiting goalkeeper and Michael Ruth found the net towards the closing stages but it was ruled out due to a handball.
The tie went to penalties who would determine who gained the bonus point with Kilby running out 4-2 winners after misses from Tony Wallace and Orsi.
Sons return to action on Tuesday as they take on Queen of the South at Palmerston in match-day two of the competition.
