UNDER-17S star Joe Coleman today made the move from youth player to professional by signing on as a member of Sons’ first-team squad.
The Alexandria born defender, who has risen through the ranks at the Dumbarton FC youth academy, is happy to make the step up.
He said : “I’ve been with Dumbarton from the age of 14 and as a local lad, I’m proud to have been offered this chance with the Sons.
“It’s been a great year for the 17s as we lost only 1 game in the whole season and I’m confident that I can continue my footballing education at the club.”
And 17s coach Richard Salvetta is equally pleased.
“We are delighted to see the youth policy at the club come to fruition again,” said Richard.
“The hard work and dedication of the players over the years has earned them this opportunity.
“This now sets targets to others within our youth set-up that the club values its youth development programme and with this player pathway in place many more of our youths can replicate the success of Joe.”
