JAGS GRAB THE POINTS

Tuesday 20th April 2021

DUMBARTON tried hard but failed to get the better of Partick Thistle at the C & G Systems Stadium this evening, going down 2-0 as the Jags moved to the top of the table.

In-form Thistle arrived in third place in League One, seeking a win to boost their promotion hopes, while Jim Duffy’s men were looking for valuable points in their relegation battle. Rabin Omar and Tomas Brindley were in the starting line-up.

A competitive first half saw chances at both ends. Robert Jones and Omar both had early opportunities, but in 17 minutes Nat Wedderburn went down injured, hobbled off, and was replaced by Adam Frizzell. Soon after the sub shot wide from the edge of the area.

Next Nick McAllister broke through a couple of challenges, but curled the ball wide. Then Jones tried an overhead kick, but it was easily saved by keeper Jamie Sneddon. Half-time arrived without a goal, and Jaime Wilson replaced the injured Sam Wardrop.

Zak Rudden was defied by keeper Sam Ramsbottom, and then by Rico Quitongo as the visitors took command and created several chances. And in the 74th minute Rudden netted from close range. A few minutes later Jones was replaced by Conner Duthie.

It was all over in the 89th minute when Ross MacIver made it 2-0 for Thistle.
