IT MAY seem a long way away right now, but preparations for Dumbarton’s 150th anniversary are already under consideration – and Club historian Jim McAllister is keen to hear all your ideas for the historic celebrations.
Jim, who is the author of both editions of the Sons’ official history, is chairing a working party looking into possible events and ideas for the century-and-a-half anniversary. He’s keen to hear what Dumbarton supporters, both old and new, would like to see happen.
The 150th year will be marked from May 2022 to May 2023, which also embraces the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Second Division Championship win, which saw Dumbarton finally return to the top flight of Scottish football.
The legends of season 1971/2 pulled off that impressive feat after 50 years of trying by the Club. It was Sons’ first national championship in sixty years… bearing in mind that they were Scotland’s original Champions, sharing the first ever League title with Rangers in 1890/91 before winning outright on 1891/2.
These and many other important landmarks will be celebrated in the official 150th year… but what do you want to see happen during that period?
Please send your thoughts and ideas to Jim McAllister at Dumbarton150@gmail.com.
We look forward to hearing from you!
