DUMBARTON manager Ian Murray has today agreed a new two-year contract following successful negotiations with the club board.
The news was broken at a specially arranged press conference at the Bet Butler Stadium this morning.
He made a great start to his managerial career at the Bet Butler Stadium in season 2012/13 by steering Sons to seventh position in the Irn-Bru Scottish League first division despite the team being adrift at the bottom of the table with only five points when he joined.
The 33-year-old has been in charge of the Sons since November 2012 and this season guided his team to 5th place in the SPFL Championship, the highest league placing for Dumbarton in 27 years.
Chief Executive Gilbert Lawrie said : “We are delighted Ian has agreed to carry on the excellent foundations he’s built at the Bet Butler Stadium.
It’s the prefect boost for the club as Murray will now get talks underway with players from the current squad as he starts preparations for next season and has already started with the news of Nicky Phinn and Owen Ronald’s departure.
Two players are already committed to the campaign – Jordan Kirkpatrick and Chris Turner – and the manager will be keen to add to his list as quickly as possible.
A delighted Murray added : “I’m glad that everything has been sorted and we can now get into the planning process for what will be an exciting campaign next season.”
As players decisions are reached, we will report them here on www.dumbartonfootballclub.com
