HONOURS EVEN AT FIRHILL

Saturday 5th December 2020

DUMBARTON’s first visit to Firhill for nearly eight years this afternoon ended in a 0-0 draw and a welcome away point.

The result ended a run of eleven consecutive defeats in Maryhill dating back to 1987.

Ian McCall’s men dominated throughout, with big striker Brian Graham missing chance after chance after an early Ross Forbes strike went wide.

The key moment came in the 36th minute when Sons skipper Stuart Carswell was adjudged by referee David Lowe to have handled while blocking a Graham shot. But keeper Kevin Dabrowski (pictured) saved the spot kick and Graham lifted the rebound over the bar.

After the break the one-way traffic continued, and in the 76th minute Graham had the ball in the net but was ruled offside.

Soon after manager Jim Duffy made a double substitution in search of a goal, with Ruaridh Langan and Jaime Wilson replacing Adam Frizzell and Robert Jones.

Some gaps started to appear in the Thistle defence, but the best late chance came at the other end in the 90th minute when a powerful Richard Foster strike was diverted by Morgyn Neill.
