HISTORY ON THE LINE

Saturday 20th August 2022

WE weren’t going to mention it, but it’s been published elsewhere. Next Saturday could be a history maker.

If Dumbarton register another victory at home to Elgin City next Saturday, it will be the first time in the club’s history we have started a league season with five straight wins.

Today’s victory over Stenhousemuir ensured that we have started with four league wins for only the fourth time in our history.

The most recent of those was season 1959/60, when the teams we beat were Stranraer, Alloa Athletic, Queen’s Park and Dundee United.

In 1943/44 we started with wins over Airdrieonians, Third Lanark, St Mirren and Celtic.

And in 1907/08, our first four league games were wins against Leith Athletic, Arthurlie, Vale of Leven and Cowdenbeath.

We have never won all of our opening five league fixtures, and we know it will not be easy to do that for the first time in our history against Elgin City.

Another tough game is in store, and we saw today what a difference a healthy Sons support can make. We wish to thank all supporters who travelled to Ochilview – you really played your part in a fine victory.

Hopefully we can do that again next Saturday – we look forward to seeing our fans at home once again.
