HISTORIC MATCHES AHEAD

Saturday 20th May 2017

DUMBARTON and Inverness CT will meet in the league for the first time ever next season after the Highland club’s relegation to the Championship was confirmed this afternoon.

Next season will be Inverness’ 24th in the top four divisions in Scotland, but they and Sons have only met twice in that time, both in the League Cup.

The Caley Jags were 2-0 winners in the competition’s first round in 2002, and then won 3-1 in the second round four years later with Stephen Dobbie scoring for Dumbarton.

Those two games took place in Inverness, meaning that next season, Inverness CT will make their first ever visit to Dumbarton’s current stadium.

Meanwhile, Falkirk will be in opposition again next season after they lost the play-off semi-final 4-3 on aggregate to Dundee United.

Alloa and Brechin are about to kick off their play-off final at the Indodrill Stadium to determine who will join next season’s Championship.
