HIBERNIAN became the eighth team in next season’s Championship line-up after they lost tonight’s play-off semi-final second leg to Falkirk 3-2 in a blaze of unbelievable late drama.
An injury time winner for the Bairns, with extra time on the horizon, put them through to the final and condemned the Leith club to a third season in the second tier.
Hibs will join Dumbarton, Dundee United, Raith Rovers, Morton, St Mirren, Queen of the South and Dunfermline Athletic in next season’s Championship.
All four of Sons’ games with Hibernian last season were won by the home side.
Either Ayr United or Stranraer will make it nine known teams in next season’s division on Sunday in the Championship play-off final second leg. That tie is poised at 1-1 from the first game.
The 10th and final place will be taken by either Kilmarnock or Falkirk after next week’s Premiership play-off final.
