HEARTS GO NAP AGAINST SONS

Saturday 10th January 2015

DUMBARTON were well beaten by a talented Hearts side at the Rock this afternoon, going down 5-1 in spite of a goal from Chris Kane and a penalty save by Danny Rogers.

It was a tale of defensive slips and missed opportunities up front for Sons, as the SPFL Championship leaders established a two-goal lead in the first half.

Sam Nicholson opened Hearts’ account on eight minutes with a drive from outside the box. Jamie Walker added a second on 25 minutes with an assist from Callum Paterson.

Within six minutes of the restart Género Zeefuik effectively wrapped up the game for the visitors with a close range effort. Nicholson claimed his second and Hearts’ fourth goal on 56 minutes.

The men from Edinburgh went nap just after the hour, as Zeefuik also made it a brace. But Sons struck back immediately from returning loanee Chris Kane, with a strike to the bottom left corner to make it 5-1.

It could have been six for Hearts on 64 minutes, when Scott Linton fouled Jamie Walker in the penalty area. However Rogers denied Zeefuik his hat-trick with a good save from the spot-kick.

Dumbarton remain in seventh place in the division after the defeat and travel to Raith Rovers next Saturday.
