GREAT START FOR SONS

Saturday 31st July 2021

DUMBARTON got off to the perfect start in their cinch League One campaign with a 3-0 away win over Clyde.

Stevie Farrell’s side travelled to Broadwood to play an away match in front of their own fans at the ground where they last did so — on Saturday March 7 2020.

An early chance fell to Clyde’s Ally Love then a David Hopkirk cross landed just behind Kalvin Orsi. In the 11th minute Sons took the lead when a Joe McKee cross from the right was turned into his own net by Conrad Balatoni.

Danny Lennon’s men came close to equalising in the 27th minute as a Ross Cunningham cross hit the crossbar and bounced over, then Clyde skipper David Goodwillie beat Gregor Buchanan but shot straight at keeper Sam Ramsbottom.

In the 30th minute McKee set up a chance for Sons skipper Stuart Carswell but his shot was blocked and went out for a corner. But four minutes later an Edin Lynch shot was parried out to Ross MacLean (pictured) who made it 2-0. MacLean netted again but it was ruled out because of a foul.

Just before half-time McKee went off injured, to be replaced by Conner Duthie.

The second period began with Buchanan and MacLean coming close, then Love came close to playing in Goodwillie. MacLean had a shot saved by keeper David Mitchell in the 68th minute, and with ten minutes to go Duthie netted no.3 from a Sam Muir cross.

Callum Wilson replaced Hopkirk after an Orsi shot was saved and Pigniatelli was replaced by Kris Syvertsen, but there was no further scoring.
