We are pleased to announce the signing of Irish right-back Gordon Walker.
Gordon, 25 joins the club on a free transfer, having been a free agent after leaving East Fife in January of this year.
From Carrigaline in the Republic of Ireland, he started his career with Cobh Ramblers in his homeland before spells with UCC and League of Ireland side Cork City.
He then moved on to Scotland with Arbroath before his spell with East Fife last year. Due to FIFA regulations only allowing players to play for two sides within a season Gordon has been without a club since his departure at the start of the year but is fit and ready to join the Sons this season.
Speaking to the club upon his arrival he spoke of his happiness to get back playing.
He said: “I’ve missed playing a lot. Being without a club obviously was a bit out of my control.
“But now that that’s over, I’m really looking forward to getting back to playing football.”
He also expressed his joy over finding a new home at the Rock: “I’ve had a good few conversations now with the gaffer and he’s outlined what he wants from the season.
“The overriding emotion I have today now is just the joy of getting the deal over the line and now I’m looking forward to the season.”
Having been part of a promotion winning side in the first half of last season Gordon knows the league and what is required, he spoke of his hopes for the upcoming season: “I think a lot of people’s hopes would be to go back up. We are starting the season on minus five points, so I think it’s about setting small targets first and then we’ll treat every game as it comes and just see where we are at come Christmas and go from there.”
Manager Stevie Farrell spoke about bringing Gordon to the club and the process involved: “We’ve done our homework and due diligence on Gordon.
“He’s played at Championship level and in the League of Ireland so comes with a good pedigree. He is a defender who wants to defend and that is vital in this league.
“He is quick, strong and has a real aggression and we’re delighted to have him on board.”
