Dumbarton couldn’t find a way past Spartans at the Rock this evening.

Sons started on the front foot, and would remain
so for much of the evening, as Michael Ruth had a goal disallowed, Marc Kelly hit the post from close range, and David Wilson forced the goalkeeper into an impressive save all in the first five minutes.

The hosts had to be aware of the threat that Spartans offered on the break, however, with Jay Hogarth making a smart stop with his feet through a crowded penalty box midway through the half to deny Sam Newman.

In the second-half, Tony Wallace forced Mason McCready into action once again as he pushed away his driven effort before the follow-up came back off the post and behind.

Sons pushed for a winner in the closing stages but couldn’t create a clear-cut opportunity in front of goal as it ended goalless.

Dumbarton travel to Clyde on Saturday.
