STEVIE FARRELL insists he’s not getting carried away, but the Dumbarton manager was nonetheless delighted by his team’s 2-1 victory at Falkirk today.
Second half goals by Kalvin Orsi and Callum Wilson ensured a third win on the bounce which surprised many neutrals.
But as well as the attacking side of the game, it was the defensive side which also pleased the manager.
There was praise all round for a hardworking performance which saw Sons finish the day joint top of League One.
The gaffer said: “We were brilliant without the ball for the full 90 minutes. We worked really hard and everybody knows their job.
“The one thing that wasn’t good enough in the first half was what we did with the ball. When playing against a possession-based team like Falkirk you have to ensure you turn it over and play the ball, and we didn’t do that well enough.
“But in the second half we knew that if we continued to be that good without the ball we could win the game and I thought we did really well.
“Conner Duthie won headers all day, which led to the first goal, and I asked Callum to take a gamble and he did exactly that. I’m delighted for him.
“I also thought our two centre halves (Ryan McGeever and Gregor Buchanan) were absolutely immense. Falkirk put a lot of balls into the box and they really were excellent in dealing with them.
“I hear that we need a striker but the way we play, we are creating chances and set pieces, open play and counter attacks all feature and we score goals.
“But we are not getting carried away. We will enjoy the result tonight and come into training and work like hell on Tuesday.
“The players also won’t get carried away, because they work for me. We’ve set ourselves targets which stay within the dressing room and we just try to ensure we are focused.
The gaffer also updated on the injury situation, which was added to today by a nasty late injury to Eoghan Stokes.
He added: “Ross MacLean and Paul Paton will train this week, but I’m a bit less hopeful about Ross being able to play next week than I am about Paul.
“Eoghan was just where we wanted him to be in terms of his development and you saw how sharp he was after he came on, but now he has rolled his ankle.”
