THE eyes of most of the nation may be elsewhere, but tonight Dumbarton’s pre-season friendly programme starts with a trip to face Lowland League outfit East Kilbride.
With Saturday’s proposed friendly at Kilbirnie Ladeside having been cancelled, Sons will return to the pitch for the first time with their new-look squad.
It will also be Stevie Farrell’s first outing, although a non-competitive one, as Dumbarton manager, and it’s an event he can’t wait for.
Stevie said: “We’ve worked hard since our return to training and the boys are desperate to get out on the pitch and play.
“The players returned to training in good condition and that has only improved as training has gone on.
“We will of course all be keen to know how things are going at Hampden, but our priority has to be preparing for the new season ahead.
“Tonight will be a decent test for us and we look forward to trying new options and ideas in this and the other games to come.”
Stevie added: “Although we won’t be able to watch the game, we wish Scotland every success against Croatia tonight.
“With Hampden only eight miles away we might even hear the roar when the ball hits the net.”
There are a number of niggling injuries among the squad, but all will be assessed by physio Kirsten Murray ahead of the game.
Stevie will also run the rule over a number of trialists across the 90 minutes.
Supporters can attend the match tonight at a cost of £5 and admission details are as per our previous story.
If you’re not going to the game tonight then we’ll have updates during the evening on our club website and social media channels.
Kick-off tonight is at 7.45pm.
