Dumbarton confirmed their progression to the second stage of the KDM Evolution Trophy with one game to spare thanks a 1-0 win over Rangers B team this afternoon.

Kristian Webster scored the only goal of the afternoon just before the hour mark to earn Sons three points and put them fifth position in the league phase.

The home side had been the better chances throughout the afternoon but had to work for their victory, with Dom Docherty coming close on the first-half when the goalkeeper blocked his shot from inside the box.

Dumbarton got their goal on 57 minutes when a corner ended up at the back post where Webster got the final touch to nod the ball in, despite the best efforts of a defender and the crossbar.

Sons ‘keeper Ollie Ecrepont was busier after the goal but kept out efforts from range to ensure his side picked up all three points.

Dumbarton host Stenhousemuir in their final group match next month before the second round ahead of the return to league action on Saturday when Spartans visit the Marbill Coaches Stadium.
