WITH Sons Scottish Cup tie against Hamilton Accies suffering four cancellations the knock-on effect to other fixtures is not as bad as many would think!
Secretary David Prophet explains.
“We try again to get the Scottish Cup tie played at the Bet Butler Stadium on the 17th of this month and should that fail, we move to the 19th.
“In the event of the 19th being postponed it is assumed that we move to Xmas Eve to get it played, but I’ve been in contact with the SFA and they don’t think it would be reasonable to play on this date, for obvious reasons.
“The league game with the Accies on the 18th is now cancelled regardless and we’ll attempt to get this match played in the New Year.
“It all sound chaotic but it’s not really. It’s more frustrating than anything else as we now haven’t played since the Dunfermline game on 24th November.”
With temperatures set to ease over the next few days, groundstaff and officials are hopeful that this Saturday’s SFL game against Livingston will go ahead but there is a word of caution from Chief Executive Gilbert Lawrie.
He said : “Temperature wise I would have been very optimistic about the Livi game, but the worry is the torrential rain that is forecast for tomorrow,
“7.7mm is the predicted rainfall which may have difficulty draining away if frost is still in the ground.
“The last time in a similar situation it was 48hrs before the rain drained away, so it’s a note of caution.”
